First a quick overview/introduction via lists:

My interests are incredibly broad but just to give you somewhat of an idea of the type of things that will be put here:

• Free and Open Source Software/Hardware
• Computers and Computer Systems

• Chemistry (Organic, Crystallographic and Computational)
• Physics (Esp. Quantum, and as it relates to Chemistry, and Nanotechnology)

• Alternative lifestyle design (Living on a boat, in a tree, rv etc)

Essentially there are going to be four types of posts made here:

• Full description of a product/service/program/object idea that I have had recently
• A question/topic/idea that I feel is worth exploring through an essay
• An update on a project that I am working on
• A tutorial type of post for a piece of software that I have learned how to use, that I couldn’t find good documentation on

And a bit of a back-story of why I am starting this:

I decided to start this blog after reading a fantastic piece of writing by Paul Graham: The Age of the Essay, in which he describes the importance of the process of writing in creating complex and well formed ideas, in essence saying that by writing about ideas that you have you will develop them and surprise yourself in the process. This is only one small idea given in his essay and I highly recommend that you read the entire thing. In short though I want to start practicing my writing, and developing some of my ideas, and (hopefully) getting some constructive feedback, don’t be shy about leaving any comments, pointing out any ineptitude or oversight.

Consider these as Open Ideas:

The first thing that I remember wanting my career to be was an inventor. I didn’t distinguish well though between the scientific/mathematic type invention and physical/traditional type of invention. I just knew that I wanted to make things and develop a cleverness in creating things. Growing up I remember having ideas almost constantly, and remember witnessing people bring them to fruition later. Every time I would think “Well that should have been me”, though I had no idea of how to get from what happened in my head to actually developing something.

A few years ago I started writing down all of these thoughts with very little rational thought, no censoring no debating how feasible something was to do, just writing. It is an activity that I still perform almost religiously. Most of these thoughts I have little to no desire to profit from them (I mean if I could that would  be fantastic, but it isn’t my main reason for having them). I mostly just write down things that I want. Nearly everything that I have used in my life has left me somewhere on the continuum of somewhat dissatisfied to having no idea how that product or thing ever managed to get passed conception.
